Release Yourself

“Release Yoursef” is the last track of Orkhan Efendi’s debut album with the same title. The song is the anthem of Efendi’s music, bringing the main idea behind why all these songs are created and coming into the world.

“Release Yourself” talks about the mental freedom, it is the dialogue between the person with many restrictions in the world in the mind and in the soul on one hand and with the spirit inside who wants itself to be emancipated on the other, since it is almost impossible for the inner person to keep itself hidden from the society – for the sake of others!

That is why there are two characters in the song – the first one is a really strict person, takes everything seriously and plays as a role of fence for the second character – still living inside, restricted, blocked with the chains, cannot move in the way he wants. But at the end the inner character blows out and obliterates all the obstacles and comes out.

Somebody deep inside is knocking on the breast, tied up with the chains for the sake of others – this is the inner character suffers from being hampered by the outer personality. But the inner personality thinks that enough is enough, now is the time. To pile up everything collected till today. Bravely to come before others and just show itself to everyone.

Release Yourself, Release Yourself – in the chorus it could sound like Efendi gives advise to listener that “hey, release yourself” but it is actually the dialogue between two characters in the song.

Why to stay in the place where I don’t belong? – the dialogue continues and evolves to the intense level, they are thinking of the situation that why hiding your thoughts – state of mind, just shaping yourself for the other’s desire, why not becoming just yourself? It is not the shame to be just you!

In the second verse it evolves further and the outer character decides that – yes, it is really time to end that artificial behavior, insincere actions. It is time to spit on what they think! – this is about being fed up with constant blames and judgements of people, it is time to tell our spirit – Release Yourself!

In the bridge section the outer character falls on his knees and wants to surrender to the inner personality. He thinks that there is no difference to be in prison or to be in freedom in this way – I am just a jailbird in the freedom! – then he calls the inner personality finally to come out.

Release Yourself is a hard rock composition but at the end there is a monologue of the inner personality – but now outside, already came out – rapping about the past and now, and also how he is going to handle it from this time onwards.

He says that it was a long time he wanted to change himself for other people. It is enough trying to make everyone feel satisfied, everyone should be happy but except the real person inside.

I can give up from my dreams for you all, put my doings away and put yours ahead – I will be the person as you wish me to see, I can give up everything I want – that was the past, that was how the then-inner character was managing the relationship with the society. But….now real nude person should let itself alone – show itself how it really is!

Its brain has many things to say. The brain lived by eating every single thought  came to it till today. What he thought he didn’t tell openly, he just ate it, swallowed it, didn’t let it out. He ate those thoughts before they became a throwaway, for the purpose of living, surviving and not letting the brain to be just a meaningless object. He ate the thoughts also for keeping it, preserving it inside. Now after this feeding it wants to open it up, show what stacked till now!

Everyone has inside, inner world and someone inside. This is not fair to take that inner person to the grave, this will be a huge sin to let it die with the body and never let it be alive for your existence in and coming to the world!

Contrasting real self and people, then putting yourself as a slave – this is a tragedy for the monologuer, because you know yourself best than everyone, thousands of people can tell me thousands of things, but one know the best one for itself.

At the end, the inner (now outer) personality tells to others, that if you are absolutely sure that this is the way you are going to take on the journey, no matter how many times you are going to fail, just keep going. Fail – do it again – fail-do it again. “Fall thousands time and stand up again”.

Release yourself, release what you have before it becomes too late, or you will just wake up and find yourself at the age of 75 (for example), and look behind and think – I just didn’t do anything that I wanted to do in the life.

Release yourself is a hard rock-rap song, 13th track of the album. Recorded in April, 2020 and released in November 2020 as a last song from the album.

The artwork was created both for the album cover and for the song, truly representing the idea behind both the song and the whole music by Orkhan Efendi, “Release Yourself” is actually a slogan in this case for the reason of the music existing in the world. Music is all about releasing your feeling into the sound. The artwork was created by Asad Sultanli, who was also the author of artworks for “Winter Sun” and “Universe in the Mind”. It took total 6 months for him to create it following many depressive days during the process.

“Release Yourself”  actually shows the main principle of music, the main reason why it actually exists. We all have someone inside. Releasing it is a huge alleviation, enormous mitigation of the tension.

“Release Yourself” was the end of the first session. See you in the next chapter! 🙂
