Imaginary Portrait

“Imaginary Portrait” is minor blues composition by Orkhan Efendi with modern rocky elements in it.

We all have the perfect and the most wished girl in our mind, who only exists in the illusion and obsession, yet one can see her only in his own imagination. The song is based in that concept and intended to draw accurately the portrait of impeccable girl through the music and lyrics. It is being an artist in the song but using not brushes, strokes and colors, but the music itself to create a portrait of a girl, who is not real, but imaginary. She is a phantom. The portrait combined all beautiful features from different girls in one person.

She is indeed charming, that one cannot take off his eyes to contemplate her. Therefore, not only my soul, but also the eyes of mine are delighted to see that beauty.

The imaginary girl has a natural beauty. She does not need to brush her hair and put some make up, because there is no need to do that, since that delicacy is unaffected, pure and innate. However, the author does not need definitely to be with her and touch the body, because only looking at that charm, watching this grace is sufficient to feel intoxicated. So, the beauty is that strong to give the author those feelings, to write song and being fascinated.

Her every glance, every single look enchants the spirit of the author, every movement of the imagined is something magical and glorious. However, he is also longing for reaching her, but that is obviously impossible, because the girl in the reality does not exists. But he is addicted to dream about her. This obsession puts the storyteller in the cage, her dream locked him inside, but he is satisfied with the situation, because being in that cage is delicate, due to having this beauty every time in the surrounding. That is a hallucination, which is enjoyed by the author to have.

Therefore, there is a connection between “Idolized” and “Imaginary Portrait”, since both of them is not about an ordinary love, but something divine, imaginary and not perceivable to experience, out of reality. “Despite of the fact that I am in the life pure realist and there are songs dedicated to not lying to yourself and relying on materiality, sometimes that is indeed enjoyable to leave this box and speculate about out of existing facts”.

That is a daydream to think of, hallucinate about our desired beloved. I am drawing a portrait with the hands of that dream. Through reflecting the beauty in my mind. There is also a palette in my hand, but it is not full of colors, rather than with memories, traits of charm from every single girl, my recollections. After drawing it, I am coloring, painting the portrait with those “colors” in my palette, to study each small feature of her face, to cuddle with my memories the shape of the girl. Here comes actually a little secret about the song topic, that she is used to be a real, that is the way how the author gets his colors with memories, remembrances, since he could one time to see her in the reality.

Yet now she is phantom. Non-existence, shining in the distance in my mind, melting me. With full of her bliss and brightness.

The author is already in heaven. Within the walls of it. He has come there through just looking at his imagination in the illusion and visualizing the portrait created through music. Existing only in the fantasy.

The song is again mixed through different music styles. However, in the ground it is constructed on minor blues, bluesy guitar soloing and pentatonic piano improvisation. There is a long instrumental part in the middle after the first refrain, where electro guitar and piano have a conversation with each other. At the end, the minor bluesy tune gets distorted chords for pulling some connections with modern rock. Nevertheless the ending is again alike with typical live blues performances, culminated by chords progressions through all instruments involved in the melody from the beginning till the end.

“Imaginary Portrait” is also catchy tune because its length. During 7-minutes composition the listener can enjoy the exchange of dialogues by music genres and musical instruments. It was recorded in October, 2015. Music and Lyrics belong to Orkhan Efendi himself.

“Unfortunately, I do not posses any drawing skills. But through this music, it could indeed possible for me to realize my that dream for a while, when dipping myself inside of the song to create it and perform. It is therefore a bit longer, where my individuality is truly released and imagination was exactly described in the song that I have intended to convey”.
